Destination Fly Fishing

Welcome to the ultimate saltwater playground. With Te Nii Destination Fly Fishing, you unlock Kiritimati Island’s vast network of legendary flats, prolific bonefish numbers, and heart-stopping GT action. This is the pristine paradise you’ve been waiting to cast into.

Dear Fellow Angler,

For decades, world-class fly fishing in Kiribati meant sacrificing comfort. Stark huts and basic meals were simply the price you paid for legendary flats.

Te Nii Island Lodge rewrites the rules.

Nestled on Kiribatis most pristine, wave-free lagoon, we offer exclusive access to unpressured flats teeming with trophy Bonefish, aggressive Giant Trevally, and elusive Triggerfish.

But the true Te Nii distinction begins when the rod is put away. Trade the rustic quarters of the past for premium oceanfront villas, locally sourced gourmet dining, and a full-service spa to restore your casting muscles. You no longer have to choose between an elite angling trip and a luxury vacation. At Te Nii, you get both.

Tight lines,

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

What gear should I bring?

We recommend a 7-weight or 8-weight rod for Bonefish, a 9-weight for Triggerfish and Bluefin Trevally, and a dedicated 11-weight or 12-weight setup for Giant Trevally (GT). Your reels are the most critical point of failure here: they must be fully machined alloy with a completely sealed drag system to prevent corrosive coral sand from destroying the internals. Ensure your lines are rated strictly for tropical warm-water conditions to prevent them from turning limp in the equatorial heat.

BoneFish

The Experience

Step off the boat and wade across firm, white-sand flats in knee-deep water. Because Christmas Island boasts the most prolific population of bonefish on earth, you will enjoy a target-rich environment with countless shot opportunities. These fish are un-spooked by global standards, often allowing short, manageable casts of 20 to 30 feet.

The Season

Peerless year-round consistency.

The Size Range

The average CXI bonefish runs 2 to 4 pounds. While they aren't the giant 8-pound averages of the Bahamas, their sheer abundance means landing double-digit numbers in a single day is common, with opportunities at 5 to 10-pound trophies for patient anglers.

Recommended Gear

8-weight rod with a floating saltwater line and classic, sparsely tied flies like the Christmas Island Special or Crazy Charlie (sizes 4–8).

Local Knowledge.

Unmatched Safety.

Our hand-picked, English-speaking local guides possess a generational understanding of the tides, moon phases, and fish movements across the internal lagoon.

Whether you are a seasoned saltwater veteran aiming for a Grand Slam or a beginner perfecting your double-haul, our guides tailor the day to your exact pace.

Beat the Traffic

Our veteran local guides have a generational understanding of CXI’s complex tides. They know exactly when to fish the high-traffic zones before the crowd arrives, and exactly when to slip away into the uncrowded backcountry channels and hidden flats that casual operators overlook.

Zero Commute Stress

While other anglers are packed into the backs of trucks for long, exhausting bumpy rides across the island, our custom outrigger skiffs give us fast water access, getting you to the daily hot spots ahead of the pack.

Secure Your Dates for 2027
